The ball is a tennis ball I received this item a few minutes ago and tried it out. Its harder than it looks to hit the moving ball. Best I did was 10 consecutive hits if I didn’t hit it hard. You need to hit it softly at first so its not moving too fast. About as much exercise as walking fast. Its kind of fun, Low price toy. The ball is a tennis ball, but it probably never would get up enough speed to do any permanent damage to your nose or eye.
